Thirlmere Lakes Citizen Science Program

Wollondilly

Traditionally, species discrimination for floristic mapping requires intensive field work, with the visual estimation of % cover for each species which is labour intensive, costly and time-consuming. Despite many vegetation mapping techniques, few focus on citizen science efforts to map vegetation. With these points in mind, we address two research questions in this program. 1) Where and to what are extent are wetland plant species distributed in Thirlmere Lakes National Park? 2) How can mobile mapping technologies and participatory GIS data collection encourage community engagement?
